Liberia Program
Lighthouse Adoptions offers Liberian adoptions through Acres of Hope orphanage in Monrovia, Liberia. In addition to running an excellent orphanage for homeless children, Acres of Hope is deeply involved with charitable support of the people of Liberia. Programs such as schools, clinics, and feeding programs offer hope and help to Liberians as the country recovers from 14 years of civil war.
Referrals are made by Executive Director Patty Anglin, who lives at the orphanage 50% of the time. Her intimate knowledge of the children who call her "Grandma" allows her to make personal adoption referrals based upon each child's personality, temperament, needs and strengths.
Liberian adoptions are currently taking eight to ten months after a family's dossier reaches the orphanage. During that time, Lighthouse Adoptions provides support, education and child updates whenever possible to our waiting families.
Liberia is extremely flexible as to adoptive family requirements. Married couples and single women may adopt. All God-loving families may apply.
Children from infants to age twelve are waiting for their forever families. Individual children, twins, and sibling groups are available. Some children have medical special needs, such as esophageal damage from swallowing caustic lye. The majority are healthy by third-world standards. Liberian law prohibits the listing of children on the internet, but there are children waiting for adoption at all times. Once a family's dossier is complete, the wait for a referral is generally very short.
Adoptive families' total costs for adopting one child from Liberia including program fees, US Immigrations, dossier assembly, escort home for the child, and Lighthouse Adoptions' agency fees may total approximately $18,480 to $19,665 plus the costs of a family assessment, post-placement services, and travel expenses. Your personal costs may vary. Our
Programs Flyer for families provides more detail about Lighthouse Adoptions' Liberia program. Please ask your tax adviser about the $10,000 adoption tax credit.
